Page 10 CHENEY FREE PRESS Thurs., May 18, 1972 Mr. and Mrs. Ben McKinnon, who have operated the Maple Leaf Motel and grocery store for the past 17 years, sold their business the 15th of May. The new owners are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sommerfeld. Sommerfeld is an Air National Guard technician from Geiger field. The Som- merfelds have three boys and a girl. Ben and Mina will be residing at the Richard Bellman home in Spokane for an indefinite period of time. A vacation trip is planned in the future and then back again to Spokane where Ben will look for suitable em- ployment. Many of their neigh- bors, friends and customers will certainly miss the McKinnons. We do wish to express our goodwill to the Sommerfelds as they take over their new business venture in this community. The Ladies Christian Outreach of the Garden Springs Com- munity Church met at the new home of the Tom Ehrgotts in Marshall on Tuesday of this week. A devotional period and business meeting were held with a noon potluck concluding the meeting. A food shower was given the Ehrgotts as a housewarming gesture by the ladies. Miss Kathy Kelly was chosen to represent Windsor Grange as a candidate for the Fairest of.the Fair. The contest is held at the Spokane Interstate fairgrounds later in the summer. Congratulations, Kathy, and we hope you prove to be the fairest. Brownie Troop No. 284 visited the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge recently located near Cheney. Leaders escorting the troop were Carley Rice and Charles Kulm. Mrs. Myrtle Siegert has been at Oak Harbor on Whidby Island visiting her daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Allen. Mrs. Siegert was a former teacher at Garden Springs school. Mrs. Alma Droz of Roy has been a guest at the Harold Werhan home this last week. Alma is well known by many in this locality. A lovely silver tea and program was given by the Garden Springs Community church on Monday evening to honor all mothers in the com- munity. Mrs. Marilyn Conachen was hostess for the party. Other women of the church helped. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Abitz en- tertained with a buffet luncheon on Sunday in honor of John Abitz's confirmation at Central Lutheran Church. Those at- tending the buffet at the Abitz home were Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Riggen, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Abitz, Mrs'.
