Phil and Esther Varney were married June 16. Cooks of Medical Lake have had busy year with all three daughters' unique ceremonies By LUELLA DOW Contributor Imagine you are Winston and Kirsten Cook of Medical Lake. You have three daughters, Hannah, Esther and Lydia. As the year 2012 unfolds, each daughter is married, their ceremonies unique. On March 17, Hannah Cook became the bride of Jonathan Colvin at Pinehu- rst Baptist Church in Everett, Wash. The groom's brother, who is a pastor in Illi- nois, officiated. During the ceremony, the mellow tones of a violin played by Art A1- ford reverberated throughout the church. Jonathan and Hannah Colvin were the first to begin weaving their lives together with God in a "three-stranded cord" part of their ceremony. Jonathan and Hannah Colvin now live at Shoreline, Wash. Esther Cook and Phil Varney were mar- ried June 16 at Westminster Chapel in Bel- levue, Wash. Twelve junior bridesmaids, whom Esther had mentored since first grade, were among those who attended the bride. The girls are now sophomores in high school. What a memory for them to cherish. As Winston Cook escorted his daughter down the aisle a video of Esther singing "Feels Like Home" filled the church. The song is an important memory for Esther and Phil. Esther Varney is a nurse at Seattle Children's Hospital. Phil Varney is an athletic trainer for the Seattle Thunder- birds hockey team. The couple resides in Renton, Wash. Lydia Cook and Art Alford celebrated their marriage July 28 at Christ The Re- deemer Church in Spokane. This beauti- ful church was the first in Spokane built north of the river. The music of a harpist and interpretive dance by friends of the bride preceded the ceremony. As a trib- ute to Lydia, Art wrote the processional music, which was played as Winston Cook accompanied his daughter down the aisle. Art and Lydia Alford now reside in Jackson, Miss. Winston Cook gave a personal re- flection about each daughter at their weddings. He also officiated at Esther's wedding. Winston and Kirsten Cook note that each girl graduated from Medical Lake High School and each is creative and artistic, expressing their uniqueness in their wedding ceremonies. The Cooks said, "We are thankful for God's peace and presence in each of our daughter's weddings." An echo whispers, "Yes, Lord. Amen." SE LOOKING 10 Years Ago Sept. 19, 2002 Though a downtown Cheney awning was lost, its legacy lived on now that a 12-personjury awarded bar owner Tom Showalter compensation of $14,600 to replace the one that was ordered removed because it did not meet architetral stylings. Showalter sought $26,000. The Medical Lake Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a new zoning law that ad- dressed siting of secure community transition facili- ties for sex offenders. The urgency in the vote came because if an ordinance was not in place by Oct. 1 the city might be subject to Department of Social and Health Services regulations.
