OPINION CHENEY FREE PRESS Thursday, September17,201515 continued from page 4 more on a regional level, helping to bring in large businesses such as Caterpillar. All the activity brings along a number of issues and challenges, and we felt it was time to address these along with new and existing businesses in a more thorough man- ner through a Business page. Your contact for all things business is veteran staff reporter and journalist Paul Delaney. You've also likely noticed changes to our layout format. Those will con- tinue, as we get more situated and comfortable in our new areas of cov- erage. As for Sports, with the excep- tion of some realigning of teams, we are still the same, at least for now. Another area we intend to expand is the use of our website and Face- book page. While our main product, the hard copy newspaper, still comes out once a week, we intend to utilize our website, www.cheneyfreepress. corn, and our Facebook page as means of getting out breaking news, or flews of a timely nature that wait- ing to publish in the Thursday edi- tion .just wouldn't be practical, nor useable by you, our readers. That.said, if you are a frequent guest at either or both of our online fea- tures, don't be surprised if you don't find a story you read online Friday in next Thursday's Cheney Free Press. Or, what you read on Thursday is different from what you read Monday. And, as a little teaser, look for some more enhancements to come at a later date. It's all part of what we feel is our contribution to our com- munities - which is providing news about events and issues in the com- munity you won't find anyplace else, or won't find in as much depth. In this era of instantaneous com- munication, we know there are many sources for news. We hope you will find us the one and only source of local information you can trust to be upfront, thorough and without bias. It's what we strive to be. John McCallum can be reached at jmac@cheneRflreepress.com. continued from page 4 All levels of the fire service have tra- ditionally been based on a system of mu- tual aid for the re- sponse to significant incidents and not as- sisting in these fires seems like a horrible injustice to the citi- zens of the state. I have person- ally gone on many mobilization fires and the state is set up to reimburse de- partments for the crews responding, the backfill crews to staff the station while crews are de- ployed, and to pay an hourly rate for equipment that ac- tually nets the city money in the bank. I wonder what has changed to keep the Cheney crews from responding in this time of extreme need. I know that if I was still working I would be embarrassed and frustrated that we were not able to uti- lize our training and expertise to assist in battling these fires. Apparently the 'city of Cheney has changed the policy regarding the re- sponse to state mo- bilization fires. In a time of increas- ing fire activity and magnitude it seems a questionable posi- tion.
