Cheney FFA mans "kids' barn By Terrie McNall FFA Reporter The Cheney FFA attended the Spo- kane Interstate Fair Sept. 11-19, work- ing in the Kiddy Barnyard, judging the animals and exhibiting animals. The Kiddy Barnyard opened on Sept ....... 11. Included in some of the pens were: pigmy goats, owned by Kathy Bonser; Zebus, owned by Bob Baker; a Nubian goat, owned by Murray and Vincent : :. McNall; rabbits, owned by Leona Pence; donkeys, owned by Earl Rein- bold; Scotch Highlanders cow and calf, owned by Elaine Gaudy; a sow and litter, owned by Tracy Standish; weiner pgs, owned by Rusty Emtman; and sheep, owned by Patty Wallace. The Humane Society had puppies for every- one to pet and adopt if they wanted to. All the feed was donated by G.T.A. Feed Company. Also on Saturday, the youth livestock showing opened for people 18 years of age and younger. The exhibitors from the Cheney FFA included: Patty Wal- lace, placing with Reserve Champion, receiving blue and red ribbons for her sheep, swine and rabbits; Joann Konis, placing with a Reserve Grand Champ- ion feeder sheep, while also receiving two first-place blues with both sheep and rabbits; and Ken Edwards, who also exhibited swine, place Grand Champion and entered the Round Robin event of showing beef, sheep, swine, dairy and goats. In this, he placed second. Also exhibiting swine was Mike Wal- lace, placing champion middleweight and receiving blue ribbons. ". Exhibiting beef at this year's fair was Sandy Emtman, showing a registered .." Simmental heifer, placing with a blue . in Fitting and Showing class. Then, in the conformation class, she received a first blue in the first class. Under the Junior heifer championships, she re- i. eeived a Grand Champion ribbon; then, she entered the Female Championships and again received a Grand Champion ribbon. After doing so well in "youth," she entered an open class, showing against adults and experienced show- men and placed with a blue ribbon. Also exhibiting beef was Terrie McNall, showing an Angus cross heifer. In the fitting and showing she placed second blue ribbon, and then in confor- mation she placed with a first blue, and entered into the Junior heifer Champ- ionships and placed with a Reserve Grand Champion. Also with a beef exhibiting project was Jay McNall, with another Angus cross heifer, placing with a third red in fitting and showing; then, in his confor- mation class, he placed with a first red. The Cheney FFA also participated in the livestock and horse judging contest on Sept. 14; judging on both the teams were Sandy Emtman, Joann Konis and Ken Edwards. The livestock team placed 21st out of 37. In the horse judging, it placed and tied for third. The chapter also entered an exhibit booth, showing what has happened to the past FFA members across the country. People photographed included President Jimmy Carter, Dave Brown- ing of the LA. Raiders and Spokane District Court Judge Shultize. This " booth took fifth place. ";. During the fair, some of the chapter members were invited to attend a .'. leadership seminar in Reardan, which they attended with great enthusiasm. Everyone did a good job, especially in the chores of the Kiddy Barnyard. The Cheney FFA is a team and team efforts. prove to get a job completed.
